Topic type: General

Some of you may have noticed a bit of a change around in the Levin library. The teen and biography sections have had a swap with the Teens now a bit more spread out and the biographies in a more relaxed lounge-type setting down in the North West corner.

Library notes with Wendy Fraser:

This week we will be swapping the ever-popular DVD collection with the Poetry/Literature and the return today sections.  If you have any trouble finding your way around, just ask one of the librarians who will happily point you in the right direction.

Covet by J. R. WardIn the last few months there has been a huge upsurge of writers in the paranormal romance genre.  Thanks in part to the Twilight phenomenon more and more of our regular romance readers are having a go at reading this genre (including some of the staff!).  One of the most popular authors is J. R. Ward with her Black Dagger Brotherhood series.  Covet is her latest novel which kicks off her new series, Fallen angels.   Romance and redemption is the theme for this winner-takes-all endgame series between angels and demons with the final outcome determined by seven battles for seven souls.  This is a fantastic start to an explosive new series from this author.

The romance genre as a whole continues to be one of our most popular.  Love it or hate it!  Lots of people do like a happily-ever-after story.  Sophie Kinsella is always popular with her hilarious modern-day tales.  Twenties girl introduces us to Lara who has always had an overactive imagination, but not to the point where she feels she might be losing her mind.  After all perfectly normal twenty-something girls don’t get visited by ghosts!  But inexplicably Lara’s Great Aunt Sadie – in the form of a bold, demanding, Charleston-dancing girl- has appeared to make one last request: Lara must track down a missing necklace Sadie simply can’t rest without.  What follows is another fast-paced breezy hilarious tale in typical Sophie Kinsella style.

For those who like a gritty read you simply can’t go past Contract with God by Juan Gomez-Jurado.  The discovery of a fragment of an ancient map leads Anthony Fowler, priest, CIA operative and member of the Holy Alliance, into an expedition in search of one of the most powerful ancient treasures of all. Anthony Fowler pays a visit to a war criminal living under a pseudonym because of the terrible experiments he performed on Jewish children. Fowler offers him a deal - he will not reveal the man's true identity in exchange for a huge candle covered in fine filigree gold. But it isn't the gold Fowler is after - it is the metallic object preserved within the wax, a missing fragment of an ancient map. Soon Fowler is involved in an expedition to Jordan set up by a reclusive billionaire who has links to the highest levels of the Catholic Church. But there is a traitor in the group - and he's patiently awaiting the moment to strike...
