Library policy explaining the terms and conditions of using our photocopiers, including copyright.
Principle
Horowhenua Library Trust provides public photocopying facilities to support its educational and recreational mission.
Charges
All photocopying is on a self service basis:
- Black and White A4 20c
- Black and White A3 40c
- Colour A4 $2
- Colour A3 $4
Double-siding is charged per side, there is no discount for volume or using your own paper.
Half price copying
Discounted photocopying is available to certain charitable institutions with a significant element of charity or benefit for the community. These include Thompson House, Friends of the Library, Birthright, Horowhenua and Foxton Historical Societies.
Free copying
- 3 pages may be copied from a reference book when a school student needs material for a school project and there are no books available for them to borrow.
- 5 free pages per day may be copied from the Minutes of the Maori Land Court.
- 1 free copy of any death notice.
Copyright Conditions
The following conditions must be observed when copying material:
Horowhenua Library Trust forbids and does not authorize the use of its photocopying machines to copy any work where such copying does not fall within the provisions of sections 19(1) or 20(1) of the Copyright Act.
To comply with the law on copyright, the following rules must be observed:
- it must be for research or private study only
- it must be for your own use and must not be copied for supply to another person
- copying of an unpublished work is forbidden without express permission of the owner(s) of the copyright in such a work
- you must not make more than one copy of any part of a work
- you must not copy the whole of a work
or a whole chapter
or the greater part of a particular topic
or a summary contained in the work
or more than a reasonable proportion of a work - you must not copy parts of a work so as to avoid purchasing reproductions of the work
- you must not copy significant parts of a work where you already have reasonable access to the work whether by purchase or loan.
It is the responsibility of individual users of the Library's photocopying machines to observe the legal requirements of the Copyright Act. These photocopiers are made available on the express condition that users will indemnify the Library Trust in respect of any claim made against it for breach of copyright.
