A busy month in June with Rosalie's farewell, a cooking demo, and planning for upcoming events.

From our Chairperson
Hi Friends and Volunteers,
Two upcoming events to note in your diaries:

* 1. Rosalie Blake's farewell morning tea at the library from 10.00 am on Tuesday 30 June 2009. This is a very extended morning tea so drop in when you can. Rosalie would love to see you.

* 2. An Evening with Simon and Alison Holst at 7.00 pm on Friday 3 July 2009 at the Levin Memorial Hall. Alison and her son Simon are well known TV cooks and are holding a cooking demonstration for us. The emphasis is on tasty low cost meals easily cooked at home. Potatoes and other locally grown vegetables will be featured. Notes and recipes are given out to make it easy to recreate these delicious meals at home.

Tickets are now on sale at the Levin Library for $15 per person. This will be a very good night out. Spread the word with friends and family. If you need help with transport let me know and we'll see what we can arrange.

Branching out...

Levin: Rosalie reported a 26% increase in issues this month making it very busy. The display of sponsored large books is very attractive.
Rosalie welcomed onto FOHL as a co-opted committee member from 1st July.

Quiz night wipe-out. Not enough ticket takers. Courtyard project progressing.
Tokomaru

Trust are still keen to put a computer into this library next year.
Question asked - Could FOHL assist with the running of a quiz? Locals to set it up and Friends help? Date still to be confirmed within the next 12 months.

We made $1955 from the Quiz Night in Levin. Thank you for your support.
Don't forget to pick up your donation receipt from your nearest library. Just ask at the desk. Receipts are in brown envelopes in the FOHL drawer. Yours has your name on it.
Volunteers Day in the Mall

FOHL was represented with a manned? / womaned? display in the Mall on Volunteers Day. A number of people took applications to join ‘Friends'. The move into fundraising with cars up for raffle in the mall is good, but unfortunately tickets were not yet available for sale though many asked as our table was right in front of the car raffle display!
Thanks for submissions!

Many thanks to those who put in submissions to the council about Library funding. The Council is now more aware of community support and concerns.
Marking Matariki...The history of cultures who have recognized the Pleiades/Matariki in their myths is long and ancient. Take a look in the Library to find out more about this event which just might become our 12th National Holiday.
Book sale

Wednesday 22nd - Saturday 25th July after the school holidays.
Large Print Promotion

New large print books available now.
